If you are lucky enough to live near the coast, beach and cliff-walking can be a great outdoor activity – both in good weather and bad. Many people think that the beach is only to be enjoyed in the sun, but there is nothing quite like donning your Fjallraven jackets and a pair of wellies and making the most of the scenery in any weather.
If truth be told, I prefer the coast at its wildest. The waves coming over the sea wall, the foaming seas – and even the occasional rock being thrown by the waves onto the road. It is best to avoid driving that way on stormy days, though, due to the salt water and danger of damage to the car.
Autumn days too are just lovely for walks on the beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach in the winter, so taking the dogs out and watching them enjoy running at full pelt over the open expanse of sands and sniffing in the rock pools is great fun.
Wrap up well and you will be able to get out on even the worst winter days and even in the snow!
On beautiful sunny days and on wild and wet winter days, walking on the beaches around our beautiful coastline is one of the best forms of exercise – as long as you don't succumb to the cream teas in the cafe afterwards!
